Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolors use a lightfastness rating system based on the standardized protocol established by ASTM International (American Society for Testing and Materials).
This system classifies the ability of a paint pigment to resist fading or color change over time when exposed to light.
Ratings are shown on each tube using Roman numerals from I to IV:

I = Excellent: Guaranteed to remain unchanged for over 100 years under normal gallery lighting.
II = Very Good: Guaranteed to last approximately 100 years.
III = Fair: Expected to show fading within 50 to 70 years.
IV = Fugitive: Highly unstable colors that will begin to fade in 15 to 20 years (or even months if placed in direct sunlight). Notable examples include Opera Pink and Alizarin Crimson.
